John's HAINS family from Bitton and BAGGRIDGE from neighboring Siston migrated to Skewen Near Neath, Wales, apparently following the copper industry. Several other families from Bitton are also living and working in Skewen at the time of the 1851 Census - see their details below.

My earliest is George BAGGRIDGE, b. Siston abt 1792 (Siston PR record of baptism Feb 5 1792 and per age in 1851 Census, Crown Works, Cadoxton, Skewen, Wales). He m. Mary HAINS, b Bitton abt 1792, on 7 June 1812 in Bitton.
In the 1841 Census George is living with his wife Mary (nee HAINS) at the Crown Works Row and is described as a Spelterman. Only his daughters, Mary (15) and Susan (8) are living at home. Both the sons, George and John, have set up their own households.
George died before the 1861 Census. In 1861 and 1871 Mary is still living at the Crown Works and she is described as a widow and pauper.
